‘The Mandalorian’ (Season 3) Release Date

” The Mandalorian” is getting ready for a brand new adventure. Disney+ has released the first trailer for Season 3 of the cult “Star Wars” series, and also announced that the series is scheduled to premiere in 2023.

At D23 at D23, actress Katee Sackhoff said that the new season was “crazy” before Lucasfilm revealed a teaser trailer.

Season 3 wraps up the episodes that took place in “The Book of Boba Fett,” the miniseries from 2021 that featured the show’s main character Din Djarin ( Pedro Pascal) popularly referred to for his role as Mandalorian also known as “Mando” — in an appearance. The final episode in the series saw Grogu Mando’s teen son, decide to join him again after having left his group to study with his mentor, the Jedi master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). They then quit Tatooine in the form of Mando embarking on a journey to explore “the living waters” under the planet Mandore to earn his respect and become an official Mandalorian once more. Mando is bound to face a lot of obstacles on his way including others from the population and the trailer tease the possibility of a fight between Djarin and other tough armored warriors.

Alongside Pascal, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, and Katee Sackhoff have been confirmed to reprise their “Mandalorian” roles for Season 3. Weathers is the officer of the guild known as bounty hunters Greef Karga while Esposito is the show’s villain, Moff Gideon, who attempts to get Grogu by stealing the dark saber of Mando. Katee Sackhoff is back for season 2 as Bo-Katan, a female Mandalorian looking to rescue her Darksaber back from Mando.

Additionally, Christopher Lloyd is confirmed to return for the next season. The cast of the past on this show are Amy Sedaris, Omid Abtahi, Bill Burr, Timothy Olyphant, Titus Welliver, and “Book of Boba Fett” which stars Temuera Morrison and Ming Na Wen. Season two of “The Mandalorian” also featured the first appearance by Rosario Dawson as fan-favorite character Ahsoka Tano who will be getting her own spinoff series due to air next year.

“The Mandalorian” was created by Favreau who will write the majority seasons. Filoni and Favreau co-produce the show alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Rick Famuyiwa. Lucasfilm is producing the show. Weathers has been confirmed to be the director of an episode from Season 3. The previous directors have included Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, Taika Waititi, Peyton Reed, and Robert Rodriguez. Filming for the season began in October of last year and was reported to have ended in March.

Development

At the end of April 2020, the Mandalorian producer and creator Jon Favreau had been working on the third season of the show for “a while” and further work on the series was starting. In September the actor Giancarlo Esposito stated that the second season will “start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.” Following the announcement of the second season’s finale, the release of The Book of Boba Fett to premiere in December 2021. some believed that the third season could shift focus on Din Djarin and The Mandalorian in the direction of Boba Fett. Favreau later confirmed his position that The Book of Boba Fett was a spin-off show which was produced in December 2020 and the second season of The Mandalorian with a focus on Dujardin. He also said that the third season was still in the process of being made, and filming was scheduled to start around 2021. Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and co-stars Carl Weathers all directed episodes following their work previously in previous seasons. Famuyiwa getting promoted to executive producer.

Writing

The season picks up after the events of The Book of Boba Fett (2021), with the Mandalorian and Grogu traveling to Mandalore so Din Djarin can redeem himself for his transgressions of removing his helmet.

The season is scheduled to be released in February 2023
